[OOM] December 2006
- clack clack clack clack -
She has the metal tray balanced in one hand, still steady enough that the pills don't rattle in their little plastic cup. Elle's other hand holds the curved end of a candy cane; the red pattern has faded from the other end and discolored her lips.
When it comes to celebrating the holidays, candy is as far as Elle usually gets.
She clacks past the windows without looking in, eyes focused on the bland ceiling instead. One fluorescent light is flickering, but she's pretty sure it's been doing that for at least eight months now. She can't really remember.
Her feet turn without her looking down, and she stops abruptly in front of the door. She bites down on the candy cane to hold in place while her right hand reaches out to unlock the door. It opens with a loud creak.

The water stops, but she puts the cup back on the desk, and picks something else up from the tray instead.
"I brought one for you." She holds out the green-and-white candy cane, still munching on her own.
no subject
"It's green," he says, as though this is reason enough to be suspicious. Normal candy canes have red stripes.
Of course, normal candy canes aren't offered by crazy lightning-shooting girls in cells run by organizations that don't even seem to have names.

"That's because I poisoned it."
After a moment of still holding it out, she says in a tone of patient exasperation, "They come in green, too."
no subject
He reaches for it, and pulls his hand back at the last minute. It's kind of pavlovian: picking things up after Elle's set them down is generally a safer idea.
"Do you celebrate Christmas?"
no subject
She's looking at her own candy cane, chewed up nearly to the curved part, and asks almost distractedly, "Why, were you going to get me something?"

She doesn't answer his question, but bites down her own candy cane and grabs his hand, pulling him in the direction of the desk as she stands up from the cot.
It may not be the most effective way of getting him toward the table, though, as she also sends a rather nasty spark through her hand.
no subject
"What was that for?"
It's more out of habit than any real belief that Elle requires a reason to zap him.
-- Still, it seems like a good idea to head toward the table.

All Elle does is shrug, before putting the green candy cane on the desk and pushing herself up onto it.
She picks up the plastic cup of pills and holds it out to him, possibly creating a dilemma yet again.
no subject
He reaches for the pills without much hesitation -- that's different from a random gift. "Thanks."
no subject
Her hands stay spark-free, and she just smiles in response before picking up the cup of water for him as well.
no subject
He's gotten a lot better lately. Practice makes perfect.
The pills sit in his hand for a moment, though; he just looks at them. "You're the only person here whose name I know."
no subject
She swings her legs slightly over the edge of the desk, but does not kick Peter.
(Yet.)
no subject
"Is that bald guy your boss?"
no subject
"Yeah. You could say that."
no subject
He's still holding the pills.
no subject
In a smile-y way. It doesn't suggest she's going to totally ignore the question, but that, well.
He's being annoying again.
no subject
Then he throws back the pills, and reaches for the glass of water.
no subject
But she hands him the glass, anyway.
no subject
Carefully, watching her: "Thanks."
He also picks up the candy cane, on the off chance that this appeases her.
no subject
Unless not zapping or kicking him is a reaction. Which it might well be.
But she does say, "It's Bob."
Leaning in closer, "Really exciting, isn't it?"
no subject
"How about that Haitian guy? What's his name?"
no subject
"Yeah, it's probably going to be one question per day," she says, gathering up the empty glass and plastic cup.
no subject
Or particularly inclined to say goodbye. He looks at the candy cane, vaguely.
no subject
Perhaps she entertained enough for one day, as she just says, "Have fun, Peter," and heads for the door, leaving him to ponder the candy cane on his own.
