The room doesn't scare her. The words on the walls are incomprehensible, the stains and bedframes unrecognizable. After all, the wards Elle was kept in were immaculately clean.
Yet this time, when her skin starts sparking, she keeps her eyes closed.
Maybe there is something she's scared of. Or she just needs to think without distraction.
But if she's trying to feign unconsciousness, the sparks are enough to betray her.

"Well he won't be happy."
This is low, aiming for light but not really making it.

She doesn't manage to make it sound as flippant as it should be, either.
no subject
She looks a little abstracted, her gaze shifting aimlessly from Elle to the walls to the setup of the room.
After a moment it settles back on Elle.
"I guess if he doesn't like you, there's a whole bar full of people back over there."
no subject
"Do any of them want to save you as much as I do?"
(Not did.)
no subject
From ...? may be the obvious question here.
But if she's asking, it's only with her eyes.
no subject
"I'm sorry."
She slumps a little against the bedframe.
"I don't know what to do now."
no subject
you're one microscopic cog
"There's nothing you can do, Elle."
no subject
Dully, "Are you going to bring that to me?"
no subject
"Kinda risky to do it myself."
She wrinkles her nose.
"I was thinking I'd get a friend."
no subject
A friend..?
I'm coming for you

But she can't do anything about the cold now - only her grip on the bedframe keeps her from trembling, and she begins breathing quickly, the voltage around her only increasing.
She finally looks to Ava - not afraid, but very uncertain.

Elle's sparks comfort her, in a way.
At least they make noise.
"I have to," she says, distant, and steps fully into the room. Her free hand gestures limply to the bed. "I can't bend those."
She winces, the same smoky little-girl form drifting up from the floorboards.

She doesn't say anything, but also (maybe deliberately) doesn't look at the demon.
no subject
Just the arms.
Her control is pretty nuanced, but demons are not naturally gentle by any stretch of the imagination. The twists of metal binding Elle's wrists are untwisted, then wrenched aside.
no subject
At the same time, the sparks along Elle surge, forcing her to squint against the light and causing her to tremble slightly as she moves.
no subject
"Nngh!"
Ava moves but not fast enough, and startlingly bad pain lances up her arm. The paper bag falls to the floor.
The demon flickers, but stabilizes quickly; in the same instant, its claws slash out at Elle's arm.

"Sparky--"
She flings out her own free arm.
The demon that is staticking in and out of view coils its smoky arms around Elle, as if it were giving her a very unfriendly and sulfurous hug.
no subject
Her adrenaline draining, the pain in her slashed arm because much more acute, but she can't reach for it, and can't stop the sparks along her skin from snapping over it.
So hr eyes fall to the floor, and the new bloodstain she's going to leave on it.
no subject
That's exactly what she'd do in Elle's place, if she was gonna stage another attack.
Ava staggers up, clutching her own wounded arm.
She bites her lip to keep in the noises-- they'd be whimpers and swearing, but she manages to tamp them down to a series of pained, unsteady breaths.
The demon stays in place.

Eventually, she pulls her legs up, but it's all she can do to curl around her wound.
no subject
But then her eyes narrow at the demon.
Slowly, slower than the first few times, another trickle of smoke materializes into a second little girl: tangled hair, dusty dress. Very sharp claws.
This one sweeps through the room, snatching up discarded twists of metal.
no subject
But her eyes don't stay on the demon. Instead, she looks back to Ava.
Weakly, "Is he gonna like this?"
no subject
Ava looks a little pale-- understandable, perhaps, given the recent injury. But she also looks apprehensive, even scared.
no subject
"Just go."
But it's not angry. Her voice is quiet again, and as she speaks, she glances around the room, as if to try to see if anyone else is there.
It's conspiratorial.
"Just get out now."
