Elle is curled up into one side of the couch, head leaned against the arm, sparks snapping around her neck. Farrah, who has chosen to settle on her stomach, is watching the sparks crackle, head moving back and forth very slightly as the electricity flares and flashes on her skin.

Fortunately, she hasn't resorted to batting her paw at them.

That probably wouldn't be pleasant for anyone.

"From Milliways?"

X pauses.

"Or on someone else's world."

"From Milliways."

Beat.

"Sameth."

"Oh."

X looks startled, but only for a moment.

"He is good. At making things."

Beat.

"It will be magic? What he builds."

"He said it wouldn't be."

She shrugs her sparking shoulder, free hand still scratching at Farrah's ears.

"But he's not used to - electricity."

"You think he will fail? The first time."

Beat.

"Or you are not worried."

It takes her a minute, but eventually, she articulates -

"I can't do it."

Worrying doesn't seem to make much difference.

X offers a shrug, one-shouldered and quick.

"I am not good at building things, either."

In case that is relevant.

She thinks on this, and then -

"Anything he does'll be better than anything I can do for it."

Maybe it's a clarification.

X considers that.

Then --

"You know when it will be done?"

"He said he'd tell me."

Beat.

"Then I'll pay."

"You know how much it will cost?"

X is curious.

And Sameth does not seem to be a problematic person.

"He said I'd - choose."

With a small shrug, "I have money."

"Okay."

X's response is simple.

She may also choose this moment to lean against Elle's shoulder.

Just because.

Elle makes sure the sparks are safely away from her.

Then, with only a brief moment of hesitation, she maneuvers to put her arm around X's shoulder. If X allows it.

"After it's done - I might go home."

X keeps some of her weight resting against Elle, though she does turn her head enough to see the other woman's face.

"You have work?"

Beat.

"To do. There."

It seems relevant.

"I have to - deal with it."

Eventually, anyway.

"You will."

X sounds certain about that.

Elle nods, just as much as she can.

Then, she glances down to the cat still in her lap.

"Thanks."

X nudges Elle's shoulder with her own.

Gently.

It is kind of like a shove.

"You are welcome."
